Workshop: Processing Relationships to Place, Part 1

September 19, 2025 @ 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Participants will join Winnipeg-based artist Mariana Muñoz Gomez in practicing expressing their relationships to place through writing and drawing. A selection of texts, videos, and other artworks will be shared with participants to explore in advance of the workshop starting. During the workshop, we will discuss this content together, and receive and create prompts for writing and drawing, which may be done independently between workshop sessions.

This workshop is open to individuals identifying as Black, Indigenous, and/or people of colour. With the intention of facilitating this workshop as a collaborative learning space, each participant selected for this two-day workshop will be paid an honorarium.

The workshop theme is “processing relationships to place.” Other related topics and themes to think about include: place, land, senses, relationality, anti-colonial, narratives & counter-narratives, migration, displacement, family history, local history.

Applications are due Thursday September 11, 2025, 9am PDT.

Individuals accepted into the workshop will be notified on Saturday September 13, 2025.

This event is supported by the Manitoba Arts Council and the Canada Council for the Arts and is presented in partnership between grunt gallery and the Aboriginal Gathering Place (AGP), Emily Carr University of Art + Design.
