ECU Community Resources

The AGP has put together resources on a variety of topics for the ECU Community to access. There are additional resources available through the ECU Library Research Guides.

Territorial Acknowledgement Resources

A territorial acknowledgement for the University was developed by the Aboriginal Gathering Place, the ECU Aboriginal Advisory Committee, and our cultural advisors. Learn about the ECU territorial acknowledgement, the Host Nations, and broader information about these acknowledgements.

Truth & Reconciliation Resources

The Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada (TRC) was established as part of a legal settlement, the Indian Residential Schools Settlement Agreement, between Survivors, the Government of Canada, the Assembly of First Nations and Inuit representatives, and the church bodies that ran residential schools. As part of that Agreement, the TRC was mandated to inform all Canadians about the residential school system and its legacy.

Cultural Education Resources

Cultural understanding and cultural expertise are approaches that have framed cultural teaching practices for many years. Although these approaches are valuable, they do not address historical and current political, social, and economic forces that are the context for most teaching and learning experiences involving Aboriginal students. Access resources that describe, investigate, and offer ways in which teachers can integrate the concepts of cultural safety and decolonization into the classroom.

Material Practice Resources

Material practice is a vital part of Indigenous literacy which shows how knowledge connects identity, culture, and community. Access material practice videos, instructions, and online tutorials.
